# Does Ring work with Apple Home? HomeKit, Apple TV and the workarounds

_Oct 23, 2026 · Paymahn Moghadasian_

_Data: Ring Appstore figures are from Ring's public Appstore data, 30-day window ending Oct 23, 2026, read by Pubstoop on Oct 23, 2026. Ring, Apple, Homebridge and Scrypted docs were checked the same day._

No. Ring cameras and doorbells don't work with Apple Home (HomeKit) out of the box. Pubstoop found no HomeKit article on Ring's [help site](https://ring.com/support), Ring doesn't appear on Apple's list of [Home accessories](https://www.apple.com/home-app/accessories/), and in 2024 a Ring moderator replied to a [Ring Community request](https://community-ring.sprinklr.com/conversations/ring-protect-plan/homekit-support/663600d8168e5500c47adec4) that "the Apple HomeKit integration is not an active project."

To get Ring devices into the Home app, you need a bridge that you run yourself: Homebridge with the homebridge-ring plugin, or Scrypted with its Ring plugin. Without a bridge, the Ring app still runs on iPhone and iPad, Ring alerts can reach an Apple Watch, and a few Ring Appstore apps put Ring cameras on an Apple TV or Apple Watch.

## The short version, by device

| Apple device | Ring support built in? | What works today |
| --- | --- | --- |
| iPhone, iPad | Yes | The Ring app (iOS 17 or later) |
| Home app (HomeKit) | No | Homebridge or Scrypted, running on a computer you keep on |
| Apple TV | No Ring app for Apple TV | Bridged cameras in the Apple Home tab, or Ring Appstore apps such as Video Wall and Home Field Bigscreen |
| HomePod | No | Siri control of bridged devices. Doorbell chimes aren't documented for bridged Ring doorbells |
| Apple Watch | No Ring watch app | iPhone notifications on the watch (Ring says smartwatches aren't officially supported), or the Video Watch Live Appstore app |

## Homebridge and the homebridge-ring plugin

[Homebridge](https://homebridge.io/) describes itself as software that "adds HomeKit support to your non-HomeKit smart home devices." It's a small server you run on your home network, so it needs a computer that stays on. Ring support comes from the [homebridge-ring plugin](https://github.com/dgreif/ring/tree/main/packages/homebridge-ring), a community project by Dusty Greif that carries the Homebridge Verified badge. It isn't made or supported by Ring or Apple.

According to the plugin's README, it covers:

- **Cameras and doorbells.** A snapshot in the Home app, a live feed with video and two-way audio when you open it, a motion sensor, the light and siren where the camera has them, and a programmable switch for doorbell presses. Battery cameras have limits on when they can take snapshots.
- **Notifications.** If you turn on notifications for a camera's motion sensor or a doorbell, HomeKit sends rich notifications with a snapshot.
- **Ring Alarm and Modes.** HomeKit's Off, Home and Away map to Ring's Disarmed, Home and Away, and you can arm or disarm with Siri.
- **Ring Smart Lighting, sensors and locks** connected through Ring Alarm or the Smart Lighting bridge.

What it doesn't do: HomeKit Secure Video. The author says in the README that he won't be adding it. Each camera also shows up as a separate accessory that you pair on its own in the Home app ([Homebridge README](https://github.com/homebridge/homebridge)). For setup, the plugin recommends the Homebridge UI or HOOBS, which walk you through linking your Ring account.

## Scrypted and its Ring plugin

[Scrypted](https://docs.scrypted.app/) is an open-source video integration platform that takes camera streams and sends them to HomeKit, Google Home, Alexa or Home Assistant. Its [Ring plugin](https://github.com/koush/scrypted/tree/main/plugins/ring) "bridges compatible Ring Cameras in Scrypted to HomeKit." The plugin lists Ring video doorbells (Wired, Pro, Pro 2, 4, 3 and 2nd Gen), Floodlight Cam Wired Plus and Pro, Spotlight Cam, Indoor Cam and Stick Up Cam, plus Ring Alarm sensors, Modes, locks and lights.

The reason people choose Scrypted is [HomeKit Secure Video](https://support.apple.com/guide/icloud/icloud-homekit-secure-video-mme054c72692/icloud) (HKSV), which records camera events to iCloud. The Ring plugin's notes cover HKSV recordings, with two warnings worth knowing:

- **Don't turn on prebuffer for Ring cameras.** The plugin says a constant live stream stops motion events from arriving, drains a battery faster than it can charge, and counts against your internet data cap.
- **Recordings can start a few seconds late.** Ring detects the motion, sends it to Ring's servers, and only then does it reach Scrypted.

On Apple's side, HKSV needs an iCloud+ plan, and the video is analyzed by your [home hub](https://support.apple.com/en-us/102557), which is a HomePod, HomePod mini or Apple TV. Apple says the 50 GB plan supports one camera, 200 GB supports up to five, and 2 TB or more supports any number, and the Home app shows the last 10 days of activity. Scrypted's [HomeKit plugin notes](https://github.com/koush/scrypted/tree/main/plugins/homekit) say iPads and HomePods, because they're wireless, aren't reliable home hubs.

**Which one?** Homebridge if you want the wider Ring lineup (alarm, sensors, lights) in the Home app and don't need iCloud recording. Scrypted if HKSV recording is the point. Both need a machine running all the time, and both depend on community projects keeping up with Ring.

## Apple TV

Ring doesn't make an Apple TV app. Ring's [download article](https://ring.com/support/articles/a7tsd/downloading-and-updating-the-Ring-app) lists the Apple App Store, Google Play and the Amazon Appstore for Fire devices, and Apple's [App Store listing for the Ring app](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ring-always-home/id926252661) shows iPhone and iPad compatibility only. There are two ways to get Ring video on an Apple TV:

- **Through a bridge.** Once Ring cameras are in the Home app, Apple TV 4K's [Apple Home tab](https://support.apple.com/guide/tv/monitor-cameras-run-scenes-apple-home-tab-atvb90537bb0/tvos) can show them in a grid or in Picture in Picture, and you can ask Siri to "Show me" a camera by name. Doorbell cameras connected to Apple Home can also pop up notifications, which you turn on or off in Settings > AirPlay and Apple Home > Notifications ([Apple](https://support.apple.com/guide/tv/adjust-settings-for-airplay-and-homekit-atvb0342111f/tvos)).
- **Through a Ring Appstore app.** Video Wall and Home Field Bigscreen both have Apple TV apps (details below). They use Ring's own Appstore connection, so there's no server to run.

## HomePod

HomePod has no Ring support of its own. With a bridge, Ring devices become Home accessories, and Homebridge says Siri can then control them. The homebridge-ring README lists Siri commands for Ring Alarm modes, such as "Set Ring Alarm to Away."

Doorbell chimes are less clear. Apple's iPhone guide describes picking which HomePods chime for a doorbell (Home Settings > Cameras & Doorbells > your doorbell > Doorbell Chime), but in the section about [HomeKit Secure Video cameras and doorbells](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/set-up-homepod-iph1ba9f6d84/ios). The homebridge-ring README only mentions HomePods chiming for Ring Intercom, and the Scrypted Ring plugin doesn't mention chimes at all. If a HomePod chime matters to you, test it before you rely on it.

## Apple Watch

There's no Ring app for Apple Watch. The App Store listing shows iPhone and iPad only, and a Ring [support article](https://ring.com/support/articles/ko6mf/video-preview-alerts) says Ring's Video Preview Alerts "may show on Apple Watches," but "smart watches are not officially supported by Ring."

Ring's iPhone notifications can still reach your wrist. Apple says a notification shows up on either your iPhone or your Apple Watch, not both, and goes to the watch when the iPhone is locked or asleep. To match the watch to your iPhone settings, open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, tap My Watch > Notifications, tap the app, then tap Mirror my iPhone ([Apple](https://support.apple.com/en-us/108369)). Ring's [notification troubleshooting article](https://ring.com/support/articles/vll73/troubleshooting-notifications-from-ring) also points out that alerts can land on a smartwatch instead of your phone.

For live video on the watch, the Ring Appstore app Video Watch Live is the direct option. With a bridge, Apple's [Apple Watch guide](https://support.apple.com/guide/watch/control-your-home-apddad023a05/watchos) says the Home app can show camera video streams, though it describes them as HomeKit Secure Video cameras.

## Ring Appstore apps that help on Apple devices

None of the 77 apps in Ring's Appstore data on Oct 23, 2026 mention HomeKit, Apple Home, Siri or HomePod, so none of them add HomeKit support. A handful do put Ring video on Apple hardware:

| App | Apple devices, per the listing | Price | Free trial | Clicks · 30 days | Accounts linked · 30 days |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | ---: | ---: |
| [Video Wall](/apps/y0f9qpx0z1p54ijw9dhu0/) | Apple TV (tvOS 17+), Mac (macOS 14+), plus Fire TV, Roku, Google TV and web | $1.99 / month / device | 30 days | 7,464 | 2,159 |
| [Video Watch Live](/apps/u1wdwhzl9af2laxuj9tpz/) | Apple Watch (watchOS 10+) with an iPhone on iOS 17+ | $1.99 / month / device | 7 days | 3,208 | 211 |
| [Seeva Online](/apps/005c2x4cfbboli1uceqi6/) | Any device with a web browser | $1 / month / device | 7 days | 1,627 | 117 |
| [Dozzi](/apps/jcwchjrcyyxxeglb74y8u/) | iPhone, with snapshots on Apple Watch (Series 7+). Needs a Dozzi Base | $3 / month / device | None listed | 136 | 5 |
| [Home Field Bigscreen](/apps/a24fmyweeselra6lnesro/) | Apple TV (tvOS 17+) | $1.99 / month / device | 5 days | — | — |

What the listings say:

- **Video Wall** shows every camera in a live grid or full screen, cycles between cameras, and lists motion and doorbell events from the last 24 hours. Its listing says it covers up to 10 devices in a household and needs a Ring Protect subscription.
- **Home Field Bigscreen** is live view only. Its listing says Ring recordings aren't played back, and owners of battery cameras should close the app when they aren't watching because live view uses battery.
- **Video Watch Live** shows live video with audio, zoom and pan on the watch, plus the day's motion and doorbell events. Its listing says event history needs a Ring Protect plan, and away from your iPhone the watch needs Wi-Fi or its own cellular connection.
- **Dozzi** is a baby-monitor app. Ring video is an optional add-on to its cry alerts.

Every Appstore app needs a Ring subscription, and only the location's primary account owner can connect one. Shared users can't, per Ring's [Appstore help article](https://ring.com/support/articles/e2sg9/Ring-appstore-third-party-integrations). The access each app asks for is on Pubstoop's [access page](/permissions/).

## What the numbers are

- **Clicks · 30 days** is Ring's published count of clicks on the app's store listing in the 30-day window ending Oct 23, 2026. It isn't installs.
- **Accounts linked · 30 days** is Ring's published count of accounts linked to the app in the same window. A linked account isn't necessarily a paying subscriber.
- A dash means Ring hasn't published figures for that app yet.
- Current figures for every app are in the [catalog](/). How Pubstoop records them: [How it works](/methodology/).
